Direct Neck Lift and Neck Liposuction
This procedure is designed to remove excess skin and fat tissue from a heavy neck (turkey gobbler deformity). In some cases, the muscles between the chin and Adam’s apple are also tightened. A direct neck lift is performed with a zigzag incision that starts at the bottom of the chin and ends at the level of the Adam’s apple.
This technique is indicated in men only, since the incision tends to heal much better on them than it does in women. In fact, hair-bearing skin makes better scars than non hair-bearing skin. The procedure is quite effective for the neck, but does not improve the jaw line.
Patients are usually able to return to work within three or four days.
The presence of a zigzag shaped scar is compensated by an impressive improvement in the profile of the neck. Minor scar revisions are often needed 6 to 12 months after the procedure. The scar revision can easily be performed in the office under local anesthesia.
A direct neck lift is usually performed under local or general anesthesia in an accredited ambulatory surgery facility.
