Lip Augmentation
If youd like to have fuller lips, or if you want to improve fine lines and wrinkles around your lips, several options are available, from injectable fillers to permanent implants.
Plastic Surgeon Dr. Boemi in Naples, Florida advises his patients to try a temporary injectable filler, such as Restylane first, so that they can get an idea of what results can be achieved, and of whether or not the outcome matches their expectations about shape and volume. If the result is satisfactory, then it may be advisable to proceed with a permanent implant. Dr. Boemis preferred choice is a tubular implant made of PTFE, which is a material that has been safely used in vascular and heart surgery for decades. Injectable fillers and permanent lip augmentation with a filler can be performed in the office.
Whether or not an anesthetic is necessary depends on the lip augmentation procedure. For injectable fillers, Dr. Boemi will often use topical anesthesia so that the procedure involves minimal discomfort. The insertion of a permanent implant is usually done under regional and/or local anesthesia.
Recovery time varies depending upon the type of procedure you have performed. Most people report little discomfort immediately following lip augmentation with implants. When the procedure is performed using an injectable filler, patients will be able to return to their normal activities immediately.
If you are interested in improving the volume or the shape of your lips, Dr. Boemi will meet with you for a consultation in order to plan the most appropriate method for your individual situation.
